Warpstock Europe 2012: Current Status

Saturday March 17, 2012  By: Christian Hennecke

Time to wipe the slate clean. The prospect of a Warpstock Europe 2012 event happening is looking rather dim.

The call for letters of intent issued by the warpevents.eu Steering Group in August 2011 resulted in only one response. This response was not disclosed to the public at that time as several factors of uncertainty made that step seem counter-productive. Unfortunately, the bidder had to withdraw.

By that time, the warpevents.eu Steering Group had essentially become defunct. Two members had left and the remaining were preoccupied with other things. This resulted in complete lack of official information and behind-the-scenes efforts by some members of the community. Admirable, but basically the intransparent mêlée that the warpevents.eu Steering Group had been established to avoid in the first place. Well, there is potential for improvement.

This is where you come into play. A year without such an event would certainly be a blow to the community. So let's try this again:

If you are interested in supporting those who want to make events happen, please consider joining the warpevents.eu Steering Group. See our other announcement.

Groups or individuals considering hosting Warpstock Europe 2012 should submit a letter of their intent to host this event by e-mail to:

steeringgroup(at)warpevents.eu

(Please do not email me personally as I am not involved in this matter any more.)

This letter of intent should contain a list of the individuals involved, the city or area in which the event would be held, and the suggested time of year for the event. The letter of intent may contain any additional information about the proposed bid that the team wishes to share. It should also include the benefits of holding the event in their suggested location. This letter does not need to be in great detail about the proposed event, but rather, a commitment from the group about entering into the bid process.

Information about the actual bid process and the requirements for hosting a Warpstock Europe event will be found on the warpevents.eu web site at:

Now is the time to start! It's still possible to make Warpstock Europe 2012 a most memorable event!
