Warpstock is an annual conference for the OS/2 and eComStation operating systems and related technology. It is dedicated to information, education, support, and exchange and addresses users, developers, and software vendors. To achieve these goals, the event offers seminars and workshops, exhibition areas, and room for personal exchange.
Warpstock conferences are held in different parts of the world. The originating event is targeted at the users of the United States of America and Canada, while the Warpstock Europe event obviously is its European counterpart. Also, there is the Warpstock Czech Repuplic, which dedicated to the community within the Czech Republic and countries of Eastern Europe.
OS/2 and eComStation users from Europe--and anywhere else for that matter--are invited to come to Germany this year to attend Warpstock Europe 2008. The Event Team has many ideas on what to offer during this three day OS/2-fest.
Warpstock Europe 2008 will be an excellent opportunity to attend high-quality presentations about a variety of OS/2- and eComStation-related subjects, exchange ideas with other developers, meet the people behind projects, get support from user groups, and talk to other users.
Located in the heart of Western Europe near the Dutch border, Düsseldorf is at a convenient travelling distance for people coming from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France. Attendees flying in from other countries will arrive at Düsseldorf International Airport, which is only 10 km away from the event location. The distance to the railway station Düsseldorf Main Station is 5 km. Public transport to the event location is available.
Following a complete refurbishment, Düsseldorf now boasts the most modern youth hostel in Europe. The City Hostel offers 96 sunny and stylish rooms, all with ensuite shower and toilet facilites, and 386 beds. The innovatively designed building also houses a very popular bistro and outdoor terrace--the perfect place to unwind after a busy day in this exciting city! Four conference rooms will host sessions, workshops, and the exhibition area, while a restaurant takes care of the physical well-being. The hostel is located directly at the left bank of the river Rhine opposite the famous historic city centre, making it a perfect starting point for everybody who wants to extend his visit beyond the duration of the event itself and avail themselves to the opportunity of a broad range of cultural offerings.
Behind the organisation of Warpstock Europe 2008 is an international group of OS/2 users, lead by Wolfgang Wilms, chairman of organiser Team OS/2 Deutschland e.V., and Christian Langanke, chairman of the supporting Team OS/2 Ruhr e.V. Both have vast experience in running such events as they already created Warpstock Europe 1999 in Bochum and Warpstock Europe 2000 in Karlsruhe and provided support for other events. This event will again benefit from the support of warpevents.eu, an organisation with the goal of enabling others to create OS/2-related events by providing information about event organisation, a communication and coordination center, and the means for running event web sites as well.

Warpstock ist eine jährlich stattfindende Konferenz zu den Betriebssystemen OS/2 und eComStation und verwandter Technologien zum Zweck der Information, der Weiterbildung, des Supports und des Austausches und wendet sich an Anwender, Entwickler und Software-Hersteller. Dazu bietet die Veranstaltung Seminare und Workshops, Ausstellungsbereiche sowie Raum für persönliche Kontakte.
Warpstock-Konferenzen werden in mehrern Teilen der Welt abgehalten. Das Öffnet einen externen Link in einem neuen Fensterursprüngliche Warpstock bedient die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika und Kanada; Warpstock Europa ist natürlich sein europäisches Pendant. Desweiteren gibt es das Warpstock Tschechische Republik für die Community der Tschechischen Republik und anderer Länder Osteuropas.
OS/2- und eComStation-Anwender aus Europa – und natürlich auch von überall sonst – sind eingeladen, dieses Jahr in die Niederlande zu kommen und an Warpstock Europa 2007 teilzunehmen. Organisatoren bereits klare Vorstellungen davon, was während des dreitägigen OS/2-Festes angeboten werden soll.
Warpstock Europa 2008 wird eine sehr gute Gelegenheit bieten, an hochqualitativen Vorträgen über eine Reihe von Themen mit OS/2- und eComStation-Bezug teilzunehmen, Ideen mit anderen Entwicklern auszutauschen, die hinter Projekten stehenden Personen kennenzulernen, Support von Anwendervereinigungen zu erlangen und sich mit anderen Anwendern zu unterhalten.
Zentral in Westeuropa nahe der Grenze zu den Niederlanden gelegen, befindet sich Düsseldorf in angenehmer Reiseentfernung für Besucher aus Deutschland, den Niederlanden, Belgien, Luxemburg und Frankreich. Einfliegende Teilnehmer kommen am Düsseldorf International Airport an, der nur 10 km vom Tagungsort entfernt ist. Die Entfernung zum Düsseldorfer Hauptbahnhof beträgt 5 km. Im öffentlichen Personennahverkehr stehen Verbindungen zur Tagungsstätte zur Verfügung.

Hinter der Organisation von Warpstock Europe 2008 steht eine internationale Gruppe von OS/2-Anwendern unter Leitung von Wolfgang Wilms, Vorsitzender des Ausrichters Team OS/2 Deutschland, und Christian Langanke, Vorsitzender des unterstützenden Team OS/2 Ruhr e.V. Beide haben große Erfahrung bei der Ausrichtung solcher Veranstaltungen. So haben sie bereits für Warpstock Europa 1999 in Bochum und Warpstock Europa 2000 in Karlsruhe verantwortlich gezeichnet und sind für andere Veranstaltungen unterstützend tätig gewesen. Diese Veranstaltung erhält wieder Unterstützung von warpevents.eu, einer Organisation mit dem Ziel, anderen die Organisation von Veranstaltungen mit OS/2-Bezug zu ermöglichen, indem Informationen zur Veranstaltungsorganisation, ein Kommunikations- und Koordinierungszentrum sowie technische Mittel für den Betrieb der Veranstaltungs-Web-Sites zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
