Warpstock Czech Republic 2009 at Raná Airport

Monday June 08, 2009  By: Christian Hennecke

The eighth Czech Warpstock mini-conference and OS/2 user meeting will take place at the Raná Airport from September 18 to 20, 2009.

Detailed information is available at the event web site at:

http://www.os2.cz/en/warpstock2009/translations/english

Raná is situated in the north-west of the Czech Republic, approx. 30 to 40 km from the German border. If you live in the region of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, eastern Germany, or southern Poland, why not to spend a weekend here? The location can be easily reached by car and plane (sporting aeroplanes and gliders). A shuttle service is available for visitors arriving via bus or train.

The place of the event is a little bit unconventional—this is the first time the event takes place at an airport. The Raná Airport is a “cradle” of Czech gliding; first steps are dated back to 1932. At the moment, the airport is used mainly by the Aeroclub of Rana, having around 40 members. Most of them practice gliding, i.e., flying in a plane without any engine. The Raná hill, just next to the airport, is a popular place for paragliders from the whole Czech Republic.

Presentations will be given in the classroom of the aeroclub. The presentation language is Czech or English depending on speaker and audience. Accomodation is also provided, all available appartments are at the event's disposition. The airport building provides all common facilities, including a bar. Dinner for attendees has been arranged for in the nearby town of Louny.

Besides the presentations, you also have the opportunity to obtain 20 trust points for the Thawte Web of Trust Programme during the event.

The event team is led by general organiser Jarda Kačer and technical organiser Luboš Černý as in previous years.
